Clinical studies demonstrate a 53% reduction in hip fractures among nursing home patients wearing simple foam pads. Using this scientific data as a starting point, we developed HipGuard™ to reduce even further the risks associated with hip fractures.
The HipGuard™ design incorporates high impact absorption materials originally developed by NASA for the Apollo project. Computer simulation and testing conducted by the University of South Carolina's Product Design & Simulation Lab indicate that HipGuard™ provides four times the impact absorption values required to prevent most impact-related hip fractures. This zone of protection and security is provided by patented, multi-layered 1/2 inch thick impact shields, held snugly to the body by a unique belt that molds closely around the hips.
Research and development at Clemson University's Apparel Research Center resulted in the advanced belt design proprietary to HipGuard™.
HipGuard™ was used in a study on the effectiveness of hip protectors and compliance by the Centre for Studies in Aging at Sunnybrook & Women’s College Health Sciences Centre. |
